Most Surveyors will be happy to carry out a Building Survey on an older or traditionally built property.  For the most situations this should be fine, however, if you are considering buying a listed building or one that is very old you may decide to seek  help from someone who specialises in historic buildings.  This could be particularly relevant if you are thinking about making alterations, adding an extension or if major repairs are needed.  A Building Surveyor specialising in historic and listed buildings will take into consideration the materials and traditional building techniques used in the original construction and use these in the report they prepare for you.  Should you decide to go ahead with any alterations you may find there are various permissions that need to be addressed, including planning permission, before any building work commences.

Very good site – “it did what it said on the tin” – I currently live in France and have been away from the UK for 9 years but am returning now and in that time I have lost track of how things work etc. Your site was fabulous, and also very easy to use.
