I always look at the reviews for all of them before making any decision. Gold Crest were quick and efficient, when I phoned back they answered quickly and effectively. They were not the cheapest, but were within my cost range.
Quality of service : The surveyor turned up on time, he was very helpful in discussing the issues with the property. Only a tiny criticism that he had not come equipped with sensible shoes so he could go out in the overgrown garden comfortably. I had explained the state of the property to the office, and they should have relayed the need for robust footwear to their surveyor.
Value for money : They survey was efficient, the report came on time and was to point.
Professionalism : Yes, despite having inappropriate footwear the surveyor went through the whole house and into the garden and did his job properly. He was especially helpful in discussing the state of the building and the possibilities for remedying any problems.

Quality of service : One point - when needing clarification on a point from the surveyor, the company claimed that they had requested time and that he was fully booked and could not speak to me until much later in the week. In reality, the surveyor had called me from his mobile, so I rang him directly and he was more than happy to chat for 5 mins to answer my question. Unnecessary bureaucracy, and I'm not even sure the office requested him to speak to me.

Promptness of response : Although I changed my mind and went for a level up in regard to the home buyer report, I requested this on an email but this email was lost. So I had to ring gold crest again, just to confirm whether this was applied for my requirements. That being said, after it was confirmed, Gold crest were great in regards to keeping me up to date with the survey.
Quality of service : It was a really thorough and detailed report which gave me the confidence to decide whether or not to go ahead with the house purchase.

Quality of service : I had a bit of trouble with arranging the survey online. I contacted their central offices and spoke with a friendly and professional member of staff who looked into the matter and resolved the issue whilst I was on the phone. It was a breath of fresh air dealing with someone who obviously takes pride in their work in such a friendly and professional manner.
Value for money : I haven't read the survey report but everything has proceeded as set out by the young lady I spoke to as well as the information provided on their site. I received the report today as stated, who could ask for morre.

I received emails telling me the vendors couldn't agree to a date although the vendors estate agent was incredibly helpful at arranging visits at short notice. We were disappointed as Goldcrest said on their website, they were now taking bookings for 2 weeks ahead.
Quality of service : It took another full week and nagging phone calls to finally get the survey at 7.30pm on the latest day Goldcrest gave us. However the survey was excellent, detailed and helpful. We had to make an appointment (2 more days …) to speak to the surveyor. But when we did, she was great. As a result of her careful report and photos, we have a clear idea of the expense which will be involved in carrying out repairs.
Professionalism : The surveyor herself was professional but the delays in booking and delivery of the survey were disappointing.

Quality of service : I understand surveyors are following guidance when they draw attention that services to a property need a check by qualified person but it wasn't clear on the report. It was marked as needing urgent attention which resulted in me generating an enquiry to ask why marked as urgent but no details in report to explain. It would only have taken one short sentence. Clarity is essential and would reduce time wasted
Value for money : Rapid booking of survey and quick turnaround for report. Slightly let down by some points in survey not being very clear.
Professionalism : Rang in with enquiry but instead of operator taking down details and forwarding on to correct person, I was asked to email in. I did email but got no response. I was contacted a few days later by someone checking if I'd received the report so I asked her about a reply to my enquiry. She said she had forwarded my query on that day but didn't mention if it had already been forwarded when I first emailed in. A few days later I emailed to check if someone was going to get back to me. The previous time I'd used this service the customer service and follow up was excellent but this time was just about satisfactory

It was well explained in layman's terms and allowed for us to make our own judgement on what we needed to have done to the property.
Value for money : According to internet searches, the price was very competitive and the report itself, very detailed.
Professionalism : We were only in contact via email, at my request but all correspondence was professional and informative. I particularly liked the mock report that was initially sent out so that I knew what to expect from my actual survey report.

After initially accepting the terms and conditions and placing, I had expected to hear back from the supplier to arrange a booking, particularly as I'd spoken with them about the need to complete the survey quickly. Once I followed this up with them, they were very responsive, and arranged a survey within the same week.
Quality of service : The survey I received was comprehensive, and highlighted some issues I would not have been aware of without the survey.
Value for money : This is the first time I have booked a survey on a property: the quote from this surveyor seemed reasonable and was lower than quotes I had received from competitors for the same service. I am particularly happy with the fact that the survey was completed within a reasonable time frame.
Professionalism : The person I spoke to on the phone gave a good impression of the company, and I was kept informed of when they survey was taking place, and when to expect the results.

Quality of service : We were very impressed with the sample survey Goldcrest provided when we were reviewing our decision. We were buying a house in need of much work and were looking for a report which would include clear estimated costs and Gold Crest came through, costing all issues and providing a clear summary and total estimate for all works at the end of the survey. Our surveyor Alan Bolton was local to the area, and spent over 4 hours at the property. We were incredibly impressed with the thoroughness and attention to detail offered, and after following up with further surveys that he recommended have uncovered a number of issues we would never have found ourselves. I would strongly recommend them to anyone looking for a full building survey as part of a property purchase.
Value for money : We went with Gold Crest as they offered the most competitive rates but also because they offered the strongest sample survey based on providing estimates of costs for work.

Quality of service : The report was sufficient. However, I was disappointed with the inability of the surveyor to call me after the survey for a 5-minute call to establish whether there were any concerns at a high level. The call was cancelled three times and eventually never took place. I was forced to make a complaint. Whenever I have had surveys in the past, the surveyor makes a point of calling to provide the highs/lows of the survey prior to the report being sent out. I was particularly disappointed that the surveyor was unable to do this in my case.
Value for money : The price of the survey was not overly expensive. However, the level of personal service was less than I expect.

Quality of service : Received detailed report bang on time.
Value for money : Gold Crest provided a highly competitive quote for the job, when other suppliers were quoting me 3 times the price for what, per their own samples, was ostensibly the same deliverable. I would note that the property we are buying is under 20 years old and in excellent condition. For an older property or one with known structural issues, it may make sense to select a more local but expensive firm.
Professionalism : My dealings were with the customer service folks, not the surveyor directly. Everyone I spoke with was very polite, courteous and able to retrieve my file details over the phone and answer my questions.

Promptness of response : Very quick response to my initial request. There was a bit of slowdown after that but everything was pretty fast overall. The survey was performed 7 days after I agreed to go ahead. Then, it took 7 days for the report to be generated and sent by e-mail. I think a total of 14 days is a quite timescale.
Quality of service : I never met the surveyor personally as I was not on site. The report had the detail and quality I expected, including some photos and recommendations.
Value for money : The building survey report had the level of detail I expected. The price was one of the most competitive in the area.
Professionalism : There was a bit of confusion with the dates on which the survey had to be booked and a few emails and calls going back and forth were required. Other than that, I am very satisfied with the service.

Quality of service : So many caveats the report was fairly useless. Didn't look at drains as cover too heavy, didn't inspect the roof off the floor due to H&S, didn't look behind furniture, didn't go in roof spaces, can't say whether walls are load bearing or stud. When asked specific questions it was basically "I can't give you more info, you need an expert for that"
Value for money : Would not spend £600 on a survey with such limited validity. If we had had the house cleared of furniture and carpets I doubt it would have been any different. We paid for the more expensive report rather than cheap homebuyers and very disappointed with the depth of report - much of it cut and paste, poor grammar etc

Quality of service : Really thorough survey (though I've never had one before to compare). Would have been very useful if I had been in a position to negotiate and wonder if it is a bit alarming (lots of red!) on purpose to achieve that end. I haven't had a chance to get any of the recommended work done (still int he process of buying the house!) so not sure how accurate the quotes provided will be, but the work mentioned all seems in line with other research so am confident it is correct.
Value for money : Definitely the cheapest option and by half in some cases. I was really using it as a buy or not buy exercise rather than wanting nuanced details, but this survey exceeded my expectations.
Professionalism : I did not meet the surveyor but I know he was accompanied by the vendor and they have made no comments or complaints. The report is very professional.

Quality of service : I had a full structural survey done on a 3 bed terraced property which I believed was ready to move in and decorate. Survey revealed major structural faults with the walls, roof plus other internal defects which estimated costs to rectify would be approx £40,000. Survey was very detailed and used a traffic light system to highlight the seriousness of any issues raised, mine coming up mainly red!!! Needless to say with this information I pulled out of the purchase of the house with immediate effect saving me much money, time and heartbreak in the long run.
Value for money : Best £347 I have ever spent as it saved me between £20,000- £40,000 in repairs to a house I was going to buy.

Quality of service : The building survey was carried out promptly and the report arrived within 4 weeks. The report itself was not structured and written in such a way that a non-expert customer can easily understand what the results of the survey. For example, the report talked of only front and rear elevations, whereas customers talk of front, back and side of houses. Some items are visible from both front and rear elevations, so applicability findings were not clear. Some repairs were suggested without identifying the reason for the repair. That said, Goldcrest did respond to my follow-up requests for clarification by email. Overall the report took much more effort to understand than I would expect, given the target audience.
Value for money : For the price I would expect a report written in plain English, not jargon.

Quality of service : Fourty four page report provided much more than I expected. Detail was clear and easy to anylize and highlighted faults found by the surveyor. It gave me a rapid summary of all the problems and also a rough cost to put things right if I buy the property. This also gives an instant recommendation to the seriousness of any issues, so providing a tool to renegotiate the asking price.
Value for money : First class result with the added value of photographic evidence of faults found on top of the written report. I am very pleased with the cost and would advise anyone to use Gold Creat before paying out more to others who do not know what to charge.

Promptness of response : The surveyor was very knowledgable on all building aspects of the property,and in particular,the building methods used around 1830,the likely date the property was built.He discussed his findings,and their ramifications/remedial costs by telephone immediately after the survey.He explained what his findings meant,particularly for a building of that age,having a timber frame structure,and damp non cavity walls.The net conclusion was that I decided against buying the property,and he saved me a great deal of cost,which may have been ineffectual anyway,in the long run.I shall using them again within the coming weeks.

Promptness of response : Accommodated my request of a particular day of the week, so I could meet the surveyor on the day.
Quality of service : Surveyor (Mr Saeed) was very thorough and took his time to explain his key findings on the day of the survey. He explained things in a simple way, and was happy to address any concerns we had about the property. The surveyor said the report could take up to 5 working days to be completed, and we received it on the 5th working day. Surveyor was good at answering any other queries we had following the report on the telephone. I would use them again.

Quality of service : Inaccurate information such as price of property makes the report questionable and unreliable. Wrong information about important things such as boiler location and structure of the building. Shamble!!
Value for money : Inaccurate information in several parts of the documents. We had to pay for another service from another provider to authenticate information provided on the report.
Professionalism : When we asked for clarifications on the information provided, we were snubbed off rudely. There was no apologies for blatantly proving wrong information on a very important document that will help us in deciding if we want to go ahead with the property or pull out. There were discrepancies on the document that showed that it was rushed and parts of it were 'copied and pasted' or/and edited from another property. Very disappointed and disgusted to say the least! Response from Ben Naylor of Gold Crest Chartered Surveyors. After looking into this complaint and speaking to all parties, we considered it appropriate in this case to offer a full refund as there were errors in the report. Please let us reassure all our clients, that significant errors will be compensated for. Please also let us assure everyone, that the Surveyor who carried out this particular report is no longer working for us and we have a new Professional, who is very experienced, courteous and pays extra special attention to detail.

This stiffened the resolve of the vendor to resist my request for a price reduction when I followed up with her. I maintained that survey results should have been kept confidential, given the not inconsiderable fee paid and that the feedback was unprofessional. I initially received a brush off, then an apology and on the third email exchange compensation of £50. Even so, I would not use this company again.

Quality of service : The only reason I wanted the survey was to establish (a) whether or not load bearing walls had been removed from the property and (b) if so, whether that work had been done in a way which was in compliance with Building Regulations, notwithstanding that no Building Regs Approval had been provided. The survey addressed (a) but not (b). I was told that I would have to pay for another survey in order to answer (b) because a structural engineer would need to make the assessment. This is ridiculous. I only wanted the survey to establish (a) and (b) and made this clear by email. If I was going to need two separate surveys for (a) and (b), they should have told me and of course I would then have chosen another provider.
Value for money : It has now turned out very expensive indeed, since I have paid the money but still do not have what I need. For that I will need to instruct another surveyor. I am furious.

Quality of service : The survey was very clear, detailed and included pictures which made it easy to where any problems were.
Value for money : They were the cheapest of all the quotes.

Professionalism : Yes again. With my very limited English language I cannot fully understand what's in the report so I rang the office and talk to Catherine. Later on the Steve Naylor which is my surveyor rang me back. We were busy so we only managed to go thru the report later on the day. It was 7:30pm, Its been a long time I came across a person that take his job with such passion and professionalism to a higher level. Everything I don't understand, he's gone thru and thorough with me literally line by line. So that I can understand what I'm buying. Thank you Goldcrest regal, I will certainly recommend you guys to my families and friends. Very good job, happy money spent.

Quality of service : I am satisfied with the service I received. The report was detailed and surveyor had expert knowledge into the non-standard construction build.

Professionalism : Courteous e-mails though wrong address postcode was found on my report which was not amended despite e-mail being sent.

Promptness of response : Sent out the request in the evening, next morning received the email of quotation but couldn't read the price on the email, and received the lady phone call too to confirm the quotation
Quality of service : Yes, staff are polite and efficient! I was lucky that someone cancel an appointment therefore there was a space for me within a week.
Value for money : The supplier has the cheapest quotation on the list. On website it says the home report takes 3-5 days. Mine check was Friday morning and received the report on Monday afternoon (if you count weekend as working days then it's 3 days; if you don't count the weekend, it's only 1 and half days)
Professionalism : Yes. I also out some of my concerns of the flat and the surveyor has checked for me. Very nice.
