What is Air Pressure Testing?
Air Pressure Testing (also known as Air Leakage Testing, Air Tightness Testing or Air Permeability Testing) is a test of the amount of air leaking in or out of a building. By keeping this level low, the building will be more energy efficient and will be cheaper to heat. It will also be less susceptible to draughts and therefore hopefully be more pleasant to live in.
When do I need to have an Air Pressure Test done?
If you are involved in any development that has new build properties as part of it - Air Pressure Testing will need to be perfomed in accordance with Part L of the Buidling Regulations. If you are having an extension built or alterations made to an existing property -air pressre testing may still be required and you will need to seek professional advice.
What are Building Regulations?
Building Regulations apply to building work in England & Wales and set standards for the design and construction of buildings to ensure the health and safety of people in and around those buildings. They also include requirements to ensure that fuel and power are conserved and facilities are provided for people, including those with disabilities, to access and move around inside buildings. Scotland has its own set of Building Regulations.
