Your website was invaluable as I was looking for a surveyor with specific knowledge of Victorian properties. I subsequently engaged the services of Geoff Hunt. Rather than a generic structural survey Mr Hunt and I walked through the property and we discussed a number of specific issues in great detail. This first hand information was far more informative than other formulaic copy and paste surveys I have received in the past. If you have specific concerns they will be addressed as well as an exceptionally thorough survey -- I have moved six times over the years and the quality of Geoffs survey is head and shoulders above the others. The technical areas are all explained in laymans terms and he gives good perspective for his recommendations, which is very helpful when explaining to others. I would highly recommend him to others. The right survey for us and the property we plan to buy Prof Ruth Campbell (London) I chose Geoff from the listings of surveyors in the southwest as he seemed to have experience in the older sort of property we were interested in. As it turned out, this was exactly the right choice. Geoff is a real buildings nut, delighting in all the idiosyncracies that an old building can demonstrate, while at the same time carefully eyeing up the challenges that they pose. His detailed survey, bespoke to our needs, which include plans for refurbishment, gives us just the sort of detail we need to embark on a quite daunting job - and to proceed with purchase. Although, by the time we agreed on the level of specification in the survey, it turned out to cost about 30% more than the basic price, I reckon we got more than that in additional knowledge and general survey value. I know I will turn to the survey in the next few years for information and guidance.. Great to have found a knowledgeable, responsive, professional surveyor. I trust Geoff completely on building matters: I hope hes ready for some occasional phone calls over the next few years, as I follow up on some of his suggestions to keep the Victorian flat in a happy condition. Expert report, Candace Kendell We asked Geoffs opinion in relation to an insurance dispute, where our kitchen floor had been replaced entirely and then had partially sunk after a few months. We needed an expert opinion on how much exploratory work was required to establish liability. I searched the Internet looking for a surveyor in the South West with expertise in Victorian buildings and building defects and found Geoff practically on our doorstep in Frome! Geoff attended promptly, listened intently, took on board a huge amount of information quickly and gave us sensible, practical verbal advice which he later confirmed in writing. Now it just happened that his advice accorded with our own position, but had he disagreed, he would have said so. We made it clear we were looking for a fair evaluation of the work and that is exactly what we got. His rates were very reasonable indeed. Some months later we have managed to resolve the dispute and this is no doubt due in no small part to the down to earth and reasonable advice we received. We would not hesitate to recommend his services and would instruct him again. Website worked well, order placed & work carried out with dispatch. We are experiencing water ingress where our new extension (built Autumn 2010) joins the house and i couldnt undersatand where it was gaining access. Used your website to find a suitable proffesional to tell us what was happening. Chap instructed (more by luck than judgement) - Geoffry Hunt was clearly competent & capable (knew his onions), Identified problem with little trouble, discussed remedial action, and at my request reccomended a tradsman to undertake work. Also provided instructions to same (with copy to me). Hourly rate high but efficient with time so overall cost sensible.
