The housing market looks set to defy gloomy predictions of a post-Brexit plunge, according to new figures from leading price comparison website, Local Surveyors Direct.

While there was a steep fall in people using the website to find surveyors, architects, electricians and other suppliers on EU referendum result day, just two days later figures were back up again.

House prices are set to slow after stamp duty changes for investors cool the property market, surveyors suggest.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) predicts that the housing market will cool over the next three months following a short-term rush on buy-to-let properties.

The number of young people in privately rented housing has more than doubled over the past 10 years, figures show.

Nearly half (48 per cent) of younger households aged 25 to 34 in England are now renting from private landlords compared to 21 per cent in 2003-4.  

Just 36 per cent of those aged 25 to 34 are home owners, the age group most likely to be raising families, down from 59 per cent in 2003-4, according to The Department for Communities and Local Government.

House prices in England have reached a record high as demand continues to outstrip supply.

New figures from the Office for National Statistics showed that house prices in November 2015 jumped by £15,000 compared with the same month the previous year, a rise of 6.5 per cent.

Prices in England alone jumped on average by 8.3 per cent to £302,000.

Local Surveyors Direct are pleased to announce that they will be sponsoring this year's Clarendon Marathon which takes place on Sunday 4 October 2015.  This event is organised by the Rotary Clubs of Winchester and Salisbury.  The race itself starts at Salisbury and follows a 26 mile course mostly along the Clarendon Way footpath all the way to Winchester.  A group of half marathon runners also joins the event at the halfway stage at Broughton.  The event attracts about 1000 runners and has been going for 16 years raising money for lots of local charities.  For more information please see

State of the UK Housing Market (Is activity going up or down?)

Last year (2013) we saw a steady ramping up of the housing market which continued through the year and on into the first quarter of 2014. 
Indications are that this growth has stalled through the summer of 2014 and activity now appears to be settling back to a more steady market.
We can see this in more detail by examining the various figures which record the changes in the market.

MORE than 40 surveyors, engineers and architects attended a conference in Hampshire on building problems, including flood damage.

The one-day CPD (Continuing Professional Development) event on Wednesday November 12 at Sandford Springs Golf Club at Kingsclere, near Basingstoke, was organised by CPD Conferences and the price comparison website Local Surveyors Direct.
