Most Surveyors will be happy to carry out Building Surveys on very old properties and for the majority of situations this would be fine. When considering the purchase of a listed building, or making alterations, building an extension or carrying out major repair works, then it may be prudent to seek advice from a Buidling Surveyor who specialises in historic and listed buildings.
If your property has wider archaeological interest then you may need more specialist advise.
Wessex Archaeology
is one of the largest archaeological practices in the country. They were set up as a trust in 1979 and they provide a wide range of services across the whole of the UK. Not only do they carry out building surveys on historic properties but they also cover excavations, underwater archaeology, coastal studies, human remains analysis, production of academic publications and specialist illustration and computer modelling.
