Drainage Specialists will provide, via this website, estimates for the minimum cost to visit a property, investigate a blockage and fix it. These estimates are from local Specialists who cover the area. In each case the price assumes that there is adequate access to the drains (usually via man hole covers) and that the work is quite straight forward. It should be noted that the work involved can vary considerably depending on the severity of the problem. Sometimes a blockage can be removed by jetting the inside of the drain to break the blockage up and renew the flow. On other occasions the blockage may be caused by root infestation, or by a collapsed drain pipe, in which case the cost to implement a permanent repair could be quite considerable. It is very important to identify and agree the various charges before work commences. In particular ask what the hourly rate is and whether it includes VAT. Be wary that some contractors work to a rate per half hour. You will need to ensure that you are both clear on what the rate is and what unit of time is being applied. In other words the cost to unblock a drain might be only slightly over £100 or if major work is required the bill might end up approaching £1,000.
